Overview
SnapStack is a Chrome extension that captures screenshots of web pages and organises them into projects and folders on your own device. It is local-first: everything it creates is stored on your computer and is never sent anywhere.
This policy explains what SnapStack does and does not do with information. It applies to the SnapStack browser extension only.
Information We Collect
SnapStack does not collect any information.
There is no server to send information to. SnapStack makes no network requests of any kind. Specifically, SnapStack does not collect:
- Personal information such as your name, address, email address, or age
- Health information
- Financial or payment information
- Authentication information such as passwords or security credentials
- Personal communications such as emails, texts, or chat messages
- Location information
- Web browsing history
- User activity such as clicks, keystrokes, or usage analytics
- Website content sent to any external server
SnapStack does not require an account, and there is nothing to sign up for or log in to.
How SnapStack Uses Information
To do its job, SnapStack handles a small amount of information entirely on your device. None of it is transmitted:
- The screenshots you capture — shown in the extension and saved when you choose to save them.
- The page title and web address of the page you capture — used to give the saved file a meaningful name, such as
001-dashboard.png. - Project names you create — used to group screenshots and to name the folder they are saved into.
- Your save-location preference — remembered so you do not have to choose it every time.
SnapStack requests four browser permissions, each used only for the features above:

SnapStack requests no access to websites in general. It cannot read pages in the background, and it has no ability to act on a page unless you click one of its buttons.
Screenshots and Website Content
A screenshot is only ever taken when you explicitly ask for one by clicking Screenshot, Select area, or Full page in the SnapStack window. SnapStack does not capture anything automatically, on a schedule, or in the background.
Captured images are kept on your device and displayed only inside the extension. They are never uploaded, transmitted, or shared. No one but you can see them, including the developer of SnapStack.
Because a screenshot is a picture of whatever is on your screen, it may contain private information if that information was visible when you captured it. Those images remain entirely under your control, on your own computer.
Local Storage and Data Handling
SnapStack stores information in two places, both on your own computer:
- Your browser's local extension storage holds your projects and your save-location preference. This is device-local storage; SnapStack does not use Chrome's synced storage, so these settings are not copied to any Google account or other device.
- Your browser's local database (IndexedDB) holds the screenshot images themselves, because they are far too large for the first kind of storage.
Files you choose to save are written to your Downloads folder using Chrome's normal download mechanism, and are yours from that point onwards.
You remain in control of everything SnapStack stores. Deleting a screenshot in the extension removes it and its image. Uninstalling SnapStack removes everything it has stored in the browser. Files already saved to your Downloads folder are not touched by uninstalling, and can be deleted like any other file.
Data Sharing
SnapStack does not share any data with anyone. There are no third parties involved, no partners, and no data transfers. Because nothing is ever sent off your device, there is nothing to share.
Data Selling
SnapStack does not sell your data, and never will. SnapStack does not collect data, so there is nothing that could be sold. Your information is not used for advertising, profiling, or credit assessment of any kind.
Third-Party Services
SnapStack uses no third-party services. It contains no analytics, no advertising, no crash reporting, no tracking pixels, and no third-party software development kits. It loads no external fonts, stylesheets, scripts, or images.
Everything SnapStack needs is included in the extension itself.
Remote Code
SnapStack does not use remote code. All of its code is included in the package you install from the Chrome Web Store and is reviewed by Google before publication. SnapStack does not download, fetch, or run any code from the internet after installation.
Data Security
The strongest protection SnapStack offers is that your data never leaves your device. There is no transmission to intercept, no server to breach, and no database of user information anywhere.
Information SnapStack stores in the browser is protected by your computer's own security and by your Chrome profile. Anyone with access to your unlocked computer and Chrome profile could open the extension, in the same way they could open any other application. Keeping your device secure is therefore the most effective way to protect what SnapStack holds.
Children's Privacy
SnapStack is a general-purpose productivity tool and is not directed at children. It does not knowingly collect information from anyone, of any age, including children under 13. Since SnapStack collects no information whatsoever, no personal information from a child can be collected, stored, or transmitted by it.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
This policy may be updated if SnapStack changes. If that happens, the Last updated date at the top of this page will change. Any change that materially affects how information is handled will be described clearly here.
Continuing to use SnapStack after an update means you accept the revised policy.
